I’ve been meaning to start a blog for a long time. For some reason, at this moment of this day while I’m procrastinating at work and my boss is out buying a Christmas kielbasa, I am doing it. Like all things in my life, this blog will be a mixture of the personal and political. I’m in one of those times of my life where I’m really struggling–”in the desert” as one of my favorite poets calls it. I am grounded in the world through writing, which I’ve done very little of lately. I hope that this blog will encourage me to write more, and in turn bring me out of this state into one of “enough.” It’s been a while.
The other reason I am starting this is to join the beautiful noise that’s out there, generated by the radical blogging community. For me, blogs are an excellent source of news, analysis, political dialogue, new music, poetry, local events, how-tos, recipes, rants, and inspiring words to keep me moving through the world. Blogs are an alternative source of media that can be transformative for both the producer and the reader (which is the focus of next year’s Allied Media Conference in Detroit), so I’m excited to have finally started one.
Okay, that’s it for my first post. Already a work in progress …

Hi Rachel! Welcome to the blogosphere.
I’m definitely interested in the transformative potential of blogs- blogging has helped me maintain a more critical awareness of the media I consume.

Hey Willow!
Good to hear from you. I agree with you–writing is such an important tool to center our awareness of ourselves and the things that we are bombarded with (and revel in) every day. I have had a slow start in the blogosphere–not for lack of ideas to write about, but lack of time at the moment. I am looking forward to writing and reading more soon. Also excited to see your anger piece in print in the next issue of Critical Moment. It is almost ready to hit the streets.
Hope to see you soon!

Yeah, I think we missed each other because we went to different Bower reunions. It would be nice to see you – I’ve been thinking a lot about the whole staying/leaving issue you posted about.
I’m excited to see my piece in the next Critical Moment too. I’m planning to post it to my blog once the issue has been released. I’m interested to see what type of conversation it can generate on a blog.
